A Few Highlights from the Collection:

 

  • Approximately 2,000 books on skiing, winter sports, and the Winter Olympics.

 

  • Ethel Van Degrift Collection - Van Degrift was an Associate Editor for Ski Illustrated and the ski columnist for the Los Angeles Times from 1939 to 1954. The collection consists of thousands of photographs and ephemera, as well as books and periodicals.

 

  • Cecil Charles Collection - Charles photographed California Skiing and ski area growth for more than 30 years, from the 1940s through the 1970s.

 

  • Carson & Vi White Collection - A collection comprised of more than 50 years of ski columns, photographs, ski club memorabilia, and ephemera from one of California's founding ski journalists.

 

  • Wolfgang Lert Collection - Extensive collection of photographs documenting ski racers, Western ski areas, and the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics.

 

  • Hundreds of periodicals including Ski, Skiing, Snow Country, Powder, Cross Country Skier, Ski Illustrated, Western Skiing, ski annuals from the U.S. and other countries, and many regional ski publications.

 

  • Extensive collection of ski columns by Frank Elkins, Oliver Kehrlein, Luanne Pfiefer, Burt Sims, Ben Tarnutzer, Ethel Van Degrift, and Carson White.
